Sunlight Spills: A Design that Brings Happiness to a Three-Generation Family

Creating a Sense of Security and Emotional Connection

This is a family of three generations. Members have elderly parents and a young boy. When the owner was young, he worked hard and entrusted his children to his parents who lived in the countryside. Now, he has achieved success in his career and bought a new house, taking his parents and child with him. The goal was to build a house that would bring happiness to the owners.

The Sunlight Spills design by Global Interior A Design Co. Ltd. is a residential project that aims to create a sense of security and emotional connection for the three-generation family. The designers wanted to provide a familiar feeling in an unfamiliar city and space, emphasizing the importance of family. By opening up the living spaces and combining natural materials with a grey color palette, the design allows the owner to easily transition between work and home life, while also fostering stronger family bonds and emotions.

The public space of the house includes the living room, restaurant, and kitchen. The designers strategically placed a medium-sized island and dining table in the restaurant area, allowing the dining table to serve multiple purposes. In addition to meals, the table can be used for the child to do homework or for the elderly to enjoy a cup of tea while reading. This arrangement ensures that all family members can engage in activities together in the public space.

The living room features a light grey color scheme, which creates a gentle and calming mood. The designers intentionally avoided using solid white, as it can feel too cold and sterile. To add depth and dimension to the space, black lines are hung from the ceiling, creating a sense of three-dimensionality.

In the restaurant area, the designers used parasol tree bark and sky plank processing for the walls. This choice of materials defines the space while maintaining an open feel. The design draws inspiration from Nordic style, incorporating natural materials and a minimalist aesthetic to create a warm and inviting dining space for the family.

The Sunlight Spills design covers an interior space of approximately 115 square meters. The designer took into consideration the owner's preference for a simple home style and a high degree of openness. The design allows young children to freely run and play, while also ensuring that parents in the kitchen can keep an eye on their every move. The concept of open space design, inspired by Nordic style, connects the living room and dining area, creating a seamless flow between the two spaces. The use of lighting, decorations, and materials adds warmth and coziness to the family's dining experience.

The Sunlight Spills design was realized in December 2017 in Taipei City, Taiwan. The project posed several challenges, as the owner wanted to create a sense of security and increase family emotions. The designers successfully achieved this by opening up the living spaces, incorporating natural materials, and using a grey color palette. The design not only provides a comfortable and functional living environment but also fosters stronger bonds and emotions among family members.

The Sunlight Spills design by Global Interior A Design Co. Ltd. was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in 2019 in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category. This prestigious award recognizes designs that exhibit outstanding creativity and resourcefulness, incorporating best practices in art, science, design, and technology. The Sunlight Spills design stands out for its ability to improve the quality of life for its occupants and create a better world through innovative and thoughtful design.
